I see London...

Warm greetings from across the pond! Danielle and I arrived safely into London with only a minor 3-4 hour delay thanks to those lovely Midwest summer storms--the midwest always delays me when I am trying to get somewhere! Snow in the winter and lightening in the summer!

Anywho we got to my friends families flat in London around 1pm, dropped our bags, showered and headed off into the city for 9 hours! We were exhausted by the time we got home last night but we had an absolute blast exploring here and there from the National Portrait Gallery, Big Ben, Parliament, London Eye, Trafalgar Square, London Institute of Contemporary Art, Leicester Square, Picidilily Circus and so much more...We even took about a half hour rest in the lawn of the Westminister Abbey to people watch and listen to the bells that played for at least twenty minutes.

Today we crossed the Thames (D kept asking me--"What again is the Thames?"--haha!) and we explored the Tower Bridge area. We visited the Design Museum, the Tate Modern, and Brogough Market. We walked along the river for quite a bit which was very fun--we are in constant amazement of the pouring out of locals from pubs during "Happy Hour". Entire sidewalks are taking over by people literally standing around drinking. Both nights it has stopped us and really had us gawking!

We leave tomorrow for Brussels in which we will spend one night and then off to Brugge to one night. I am really excited for Brugge as well as Amsterdam which will follow before we hit Berlin. Our hostel in Brugge seems among the most popular and is a haven for backpackers--we are staying in a coed room for 5 so it should be a unique experience! We met a nice group of gentlemen today from LA--they are backpacking the opposite route as us as they were heading off to Paris and were going to be ending in Amsterdam. It was neat to hear about their experience thus far in London and share stories as I am sure we will begin doing that much more as we get further into our journey.

Time to lights out--we are getting up early tomorrow morning for our last day in London. It is D's birthday and we are going to go celebrate with the guards at Buckingham Palace!!!
